What matters is not just lumens, but helmet compatibility, light mode, and the honest limit of IPX4.

What the oStar can do practically


Headband, helmet, or magnet The lamp can be worn traditionally on a headband, attached via the included Fast-NVG plate to a compatible helmet mount, or positioned magnetically on suitable steel surfaces.

Three sensible brightness levels 500 lm provide maximum orientation, 185 lm is the medium work level, and 25 lm significantly extends runtime. SOS is also available as a signal mode.
180° adjustable lamp head The light beam can be directed onto the barrel path or work surface without having to permanently put the head in an unnatural position.

Replaceable power source The oStar operates with 1× 18650 Li-Ion; according to the existing product assignment, alternatively 2× CR123A are possible. Different cell types may only be used according to their respective approval.

Avoid limits, disadvantages & bad purchases

Helmet compatibility is not automatic. An existing NVG mount must fit mechanically and be approved by the helmet manufacturer for mounting. Magnetic use is not a fall protection. IPX4 means splash protection, not submersion. Also, the maximum runtime of up to 60 hours applies to the 25-lumen level and not to 500 lumens.

Scope of delivery

Included: oStar headlamp, headband, Fast-NVG quick mounting plate, USB rechargeable 18650 battery, USB charging cable, spare O-rings, and user manual. Helmet, NVG shroud, and other mounts are not included.
Safe use
Before each use, check the band, mounting plate, lock, and housing for damage. Do not shine strong light directly into eyes. Use only undamaged batteries with correct polarity; never charge CR123A primary cells. Transport spare batteries short-circuit-proof and do not treat the magnetic attachment as fall protection.

Does the oStar fit every tactical helmet? No. A suitable NVG mount is required; additionally, the specific mounting should be approved by the helmet manufacturer. Are 60 hours runtime at 500 lumens possible? No. The long runtime belongs to the 25-lumen level. Up to 6 hours 30 minutes are specified for 500 lumens. Can the lamp be used as a magnetic work light? Yes, on suitable steel surfaces. Paint, material thickness, vibration, and dirt affect the hold; the magnet does not replace fall protection. Is the oStar waterproof? It is protected with IPX4 against splashes but not designed for submersion. Does the oStar have red or IR light? No. This product page describes a white light system.

If the same lamp is to be used while walking and at a work site, we like the flexible mounting of the oStar. NEXTORCH supplies a headband and a Fast-NVG mounting plate with a magnetic back. This allows the light to be used on the head or on a suitable mount; magnetic positioning is added on suitable steel surfaces.
The lamp head adjustable by 180° is the second consistent detail for us: The light can be directed to the required area. The three levels with 500, 185, and 25 lumens allow a conscious choice between stronger light and economical lighting. The manufacturer’s specification of up to 60 hours applies to the low level.
Our practical tip: For close work, first choose the low level and adjust the angle so that the light stays on the surface. Check the specific mount before helmet mounting. IPX4 means splash protection; submersion is not intended. The magnet does not replace fall protection.
