Polish Carbine wz. 48 – Mosin-Nagant .22 Training Rifle

For sale is a Polish Karabinek wz. 48 in caliber .22 l.r. in good, age-appropriate used condition. This historic small caliber rifle was made in Poland as a military training and drill rifle and is clearly modeled in design and handling on the Mosin-Nagant. The wz. 48 was developed in the immediate post-war period and served for cost-effective shooting training. Instead of the powerful military service cartridge, the much cheaper and low-recoil .22 l.r. cartridge was used. This allowed training of position, aiming, trigger control, and basic weapon handling.

Characteristic is the deliberate similarity to the military Mosin-Nagant: the long wooden stock, the open military sights, the bolt handle, and the overall lines convey the impression of a classic service rifle despite the small caliber.

The Karabinek wz. 48 is a single loader and has a robust cylindrical bolt. This simple design makes it an interesting contemporary witness to military shooting training of the early Cold War.
