With the Bolt-Barrel system, Merkel has perfected the classic take down and implemented it in series for the first time in this class. This rifle can be disassembled to nearly briefcase size in three steps. Even the less experienced can do this in a few seconds – bringing the Helix to transport dimensions.Shooter safetySafety is the good feeling of being able to hunt carefree – because the rifle itself offers the best conditions for safety. The Helix bolt is a further development of the classic rotating bolt – no other principle locks repeaters more securely. In the Merkel RX Helix, the rotating bolt is combined with the Helix principle to create a linear repeater. The bolt is encapsulated to the rear for additional safety and protection against dirt.Unintentional dischargeThe cocking lever of the RX Helix sits on the stock neck. It only tensions the system with thumb pressure immediately before the shot – and it can be just as easily relaxed again.Safe functionCocking lever systems sometimes suffer from a primer energy deficit. For the Helix, a patented hammer system with a joint-driven striker was developed that delivers maximum primer energy: for a safe shot release.Linear cyclingCycling while aiming is the ultimate discipline of fast follow-up shots. The Helix masters this discipline perfectly and combines the rotating bolt with true linear cycling while aiming – without the slightest disturbing twisting or tilting movement as with other straight-pull repeaters. The eye stays on the target, the chamber lever lies exactly above the trigger. The straight stock in the tradition of Merkel African rifles gives this movement the necessary support.Staying on targetThe bolt does not move beyond the stock neck towards the shooter’s eye when cycling, which disturbs aiming in conventional systems. The movement in the Helix system takes place only within the action housing. The eye remains undisturbed on the target. Now the second shot: triggered by a finely adjustable direct trigger with a crisp feel – that’s real ergonomics.Bolt Barrel SystemThe revolution in the barrel. The Bolt Barrel System is behind the perfected Merkel take down: barrel, bolt head, and action are connected by a coupling mechanism that can be released by a single lever – tool-free.
