In 2017, the Sig Sauer M17, a service pistol based on the well-known Sig P320, won first place in the race for the selection process of the new standard pistol for the US Armed Forces. For some time now, this pistol has also found a place in the airsoft sector – fully licensed and, just like the original in 9 mm x 19, extremely robust.   The pistol is fully licensed and manufactured by VFC under strict quality standards and at first glance is almost indistinguishable from the real model. The M17’s grip frame is made of a robust composite plastic and features a pleasant, light stippling, so the weapon sits securely in the hand even with wet or sweaty hands. Those who have already had experience with Sig pistols might be surprised at first touch, as the grip frame is comparatively slim. The M17 is delivered from the factory with the grip frame in size M, yet it also fits well in larger hands and offers a pleasantly deep grip. Currently, there are no interchangeable grip frames, which we would have liked to see at the launch of this sought-after pistol. The slide stop and safety can be comfortably reached even with smaller hands without having to “twist” the hand. The magazine release can be adjusted for left- and right-handed shooters. The entire pistol is also fully ambidextrous, a feature no good service pistol should lack! Only the disassembly lever is, typical for Sig, located on the left side of the M17. From the shooter’s right side, a continuous serial number is engraved in the trigger housing in front of the slide stop. The metal trigger sits in an enlarged trigger guard, so the pistol can easily be fired even with thicker gloves. The trigger has a noticeable pressure point and breaks very pleasantly; only the reset is a bit too soft for our taste. In front of the trigger guard, a 3-slot Picatinny rail is integrated into the frame, allowing almost all LLM (dummies) or smaller scope cams to be mounted without problems. The M17’s slide is very cleanly made from die-cast and features a coating very close to that of the original. The pistol has a three-dot sight system, which allows quick and uncomplicated target acquisition. The rear sight sits on a backplate that can be removed to mount a separately available micro-dot on the pistol – just like the original. There are recesses at the front and rear of the slide to facilitate cycling the pistol even in the most difficult situations. The M17’s outer barrel has a matte finish and, compared to other VFC pistols, is quite scratch-resistant. You can feel that VFC has stricter quality requirements for the SigAir series than we already know from this manufacturer, not only in the extremely play-free and robust external workmanship but also inside, the M17 is overall a very well-thought-out and stable system. The hop-up delivers overwhelming shot groups right from the factory and can be easily adjusted from the outside with the included tool. From experience, the hop-up can also be adjusted via the spring guide rod, so the tool is not necessarily needed. All essential parts of the trigger group are made of steel and thus extremely robust. This has to be the case because the system can be used with either gas or CO2 magazines. While the M17 delivers an enormous kick and excellent performance with CO2 magazines, the muzzle energy is relatively high, so we recommend operating the weapon with CO2 only at temperatures where gas no longer works. We achieved this with the use of Green Gas and 0.28g BIO BBs. The M17 comes from the factory, based on experience, very well, maybe even too well, lubricated. If this is the case with your Sig M17, we recommend cleaning it lightly. We also recommend completely cleaning and re-lubricating the gun every 2-3 game days. If the M17 is operated exclusively with CO2, it makes sense to apply some silicone oil to the outlet end of the capsule.   With the Sig M17, VFC once again proves what detailed and precise work means and directly addresses the player. But the collector’s heart can also enjoy this fully licensed pistol. All in all, the M17 is a backup that definitely won’t let you down quickly!
