The Federal Fusion Tipped in caliber .270 Winchester combines the proven bonded core design of the Fusion series with an aerodynamically shaped polymer tip. The 9.7 g / 150 gr hunting bullet was developed for high precision, reliable expansion, and deep penetration in hunting applications. The lead core is electrochemically bonded to the uniformly shaped copper jacket. This strong bond supports high weight retention and prevents premature separation of core and jacket. The polymer tip and the notched bullet tip initiate controlled expansion upon impact. Due to the streamlined bullet profile, the Fusion Tipped achieves a ballistic coefficient of 0.495. Compared to the classic Fusion version with a lead tip, the Tipped bullet offers improved aerodynamics, less wind drift and bullet drop, as well as higher energy retention at longer distances. According to the manufacturer, the load achieves a muzzle velocity of 2,850 fps, approximately 869 m/s. This results in a calculated muzzle energy of about 3,667 J. Federal assigns this cartridge to the hunting application area "Big Game."
