The Springfield Echelon 4.0 FC MS is a new and innovative pistol, which stands out primarily due to its modular solution for optic mounting. Manufactured by the Croatian company HS Produkt, which has a long cooperation with Springfield in the field of handguns, the Echelon offers the latest manufacturing techniques and practical ergonomics and modular design.
The FC is a version with a "Fullsize" frame and "Compact" slide, comparable to the Crossover models of other manufacturers. The frame can of course be swapped for another size if needed.
MS stands for "Manual Safety," meaning the manual safety. This is not standard on Echelon pistols and was added on this variant at the special request of the Spanish police, who also awarded the weapon as their new service pistol in 2025.

The heart of the pistol is the combined trigger unit with barrel mount and guide rails. This unit can be easily removed and switched between frames, so the frames do not constitute essential parts under German Weapons Law, as this function is performed by this "Central Operating Group." The unit is made of stainless steel. The standard is always the medium frame installed, and every Echelon is delivered with 3 interchangeable backstraps so the shooter can adjust the grip to their preferences. The feel itself is optimized for use under all conditions and offers not only the shooting hand optimal grip but also features texturing in various places on the frame to give all fingers and the support hand secure hold.

All controls are ambidextrous; even the magazine release button does not need to be converted to be used by left-handers, and the trigger guard is enlarged and can be operated with gloves. The slide is heavily textured to allow easy racking. The slide has integrated serrations front and rear so the hand really sits securely when manipulating the weapon. The fixed tritium sight is night-capable and made of steel; the rear sight can thus be used for racking on barricades. The cold-forged barrel and slide are Melonite-coated—for high corrosion resistance and durability.

But the really special feature of the Echelon is the optic mounting. It is fully modular, and no adapter plates are needed to mount a variety of optics.
