The stock material with soft grip surface is made of glass fiber reinforced plastic in dark anthracite. The material is soft, quiet, and feels good even in cold weather. It is designed to be system compatible: wooden stocks and synthetic stocks can be exchanged against each other. Whether standard barrel or semi-weight barrels - the Explorer forend always fits and the barrel can oscillate freely. Version: With muzzle thread. Translated straight pull The linear movement of the chamber handle is transmitted in a ratio of 1:2 to the bolt head. It moves smoothly and quietly into the locking mechanism in a special system of the Helix track - and also back out. The repeating path is translated: the fastest repeating is guaranteed. This benefits faster target acquisition and thus the precise follow-up shot. Take Down The Helix was developed not only for hunting but also for the journey there. Merkel defines a new quality of take down. The magic word for the tool-free disassembly of a hunting weapon is take-down. With the Bolt-Barrel system, Merkel has perfected the classic take down and implemented it for the first time in series in this class. This rifle can be disassembled into a size close to a briefcase in three simple steps. Even those with little practice can do this in a few seconds - and bring the Helix to transport size. Shooter safety Safety is the good feeling of being able to pursue hunting carefree - because the rifle itself provides the best conditions for safety. The Helix lock is a further development of the classic rotating bolt lock - no other principle locks repeaters more securely. In the Merkel RX Helix, the rotating bolt lock is combined with the Helix principle to create a linear repeater. The lock is encapsulated at the rear for additional safety and against contamination. Safe function Manual cocking systems sometimes suffer from a deficiency in ignition energy. For the Helix, a patented hammer system with a joint-driven firing pin has been developed, which delivers maximum ignition energy: for a safe shot release. Linear repeating Repeating in the shooting position is the king's discipline of the quick follow-up shot. The Helix masters this discipline masterfully and combines the rotating bolt lock with true linear repeating in the shooting position - without the slightest disturbing rotation or tilting movement as with other straight pull repeaters. The eye remains on the target, the chamber handle is positioned exactly above the trigger. The straight stock in the tradition of the Merkel African rifles gives this movement the necessary support. Stay on target The bolt does not move beyond the stock neck towards the shooter's eye when repeating, which disturbs aiming in conventional systems. The movement in the Helix system only takes place within the system housing. The eye remains undisturbed on the target.
