The Mosin Nagant M44 from Polish production in 1953 in caliber 7.62x54R is a historical bolt-action rifle with military origins. The M44 model was developed as a carbine variant of the Mosin-Nagant series and is characterized by its more compact design compared to earlier long gun versions. The Polish productions of this series are considered to be solidly made and are particularly sought after today by collectors of historical ordnance weapons as well as sport shooters.

The caliber 7.62x54R is one of the oldest centerfire cartridges still in use today. The rimmed cartridge was introduced in the late 19th century and was used for many decades in military bolt-action rifles of various countries. Due to its widespread use, the caliber is still employed in competitive shooting today. The designation 7.62x54R describes the cartridge and should not be confused with other calibers of similar bullet diameter.
