Schreckschussrevolver Colt Detective Special blued / 9mm R.K. The original Colt Detective Special was developed in 1927. As the name suggests, it was primarily carried by plainclothes detectives. The frame is slightly larger than the J-Frame from Smith & Wesson, allowing the revolver to hold 5 rounds in .38 Special caliber. Over the decades, the weapon has been continuously developed. In 1973, the third generation was finally created, which also corresponds to the blank-firing revolver in 9mm R.K model. The Detective was one of the first weapons from the generation of revolvers known as "snub-nosed". Similar to the S&W, the Colt was used worldwide as a primary weapon by civilian officers as well as a backup weapon by uniformed police officers. In Myanmar, it is still the weapon of choice. The production of the gas revolver is handled by Umarex, which holds the corresponding license. The signal revolver features a double-action trigger and a swing-out cylinder with an integrated ejector.
Our assessment
The small revolvers have their own charm. We are glad that Umarex chose the Generation 3 as a template, as the barrel of this version is much more appealing and modern. The blued version of the Colt Detective Special blank-firing revolver has been given a solid and high-quality touch by Umarex through the use of black combat grip panels made of plastic. The revolver fits very well and stably in the hand. It is slightly larger than the S&W but still fits smaller hands. The trigger can be well dosed despite the double-action mode and does not scratch at any point along its path. When loading the revolver, the cylinder must be swung out. All chambers are accessible at once with the Detective. Furthermore, it also has an ejector to dispose of the empty casings. Loading and unloading went very smoothly in the test. The blank-firing revolver also performed well in the shooting test. Each of the tested cartridges ignited on the first try. The casings could also be ejected without resistance afterwards.
We cannot say anything negative about the Colt Detective Special gas/signal revolver. It was manufactured cleanly, looks good, and does everything it is supposed to do. A solid revolver at a fair price.
