The new Shield "Advanced Mini Sight" is an advanced, extremely compact sight for use on long guns, "piggyback" on scopes and battle sights, and of course mounted directly on pistol slides. Unlike the known Shield Mini Sights, this sight features two lenses as a closed, nitrogen-filled sight and has a manual brightness control. The outstanding feature, however, is that despite its construction, it fits the known Shield Sight footprint and is so low-profile that co-witnessing with the standard sights is possible.

The AMS has a brightness adjustment that can either operate automatically in 3 levels or be switched to a 12-level manual operation (of which 3 are NVG-compatible) - the brightness range typically spans from "night vision compatible" to "sunny bright day."

The 4 different reticles can be switched at the push of a button - the following options are available:

- 2 MOA dot
- 8 MOA dot
- 2 MOA dot with circle (consisting of 12x 2 MOA dots)
- 8 MOA dot with circle (consisting of 12x 2 MOA dots)

The settings are saved, and when turned on, the last configuration (brightness, mode & reticle) is displayed. Three different batteries can be used: CR2025, CR2032 & CR2050. The battery life is approximately 13,000h with CR2050 on level 6 (medium) and 2 MOA dot, the battery is mounted on the side and can be replaced without disassembling the sight. The closed aluminum housing is waterproof up to about 10m for 30 minutes and features a mounting interface for accessories.

Shield International was founded in 1983 in the USA and originally dealt with special solutions for sports shooters as well as military and authorities. The expertise of the company and its founder and experienced IPSC shooter Jeremy White led to the development of the Shield Minis Sights in 1996, introduced at that time as "Firepoint." From 1998, this sight was manufactured in larger quantities as "Tasco Optima." Smith & Wesson then jumped on the bandwagon, and Docter also utilized the concept with a slightly modified footprint. Over the years, the quantity in military and law enforcement applications also grew, especially special forces were enthusiastic about the mini reflex sights.
