The ballistic helmet MICH from PGD is a low cut helmet with strong ballistic resistance, 100% made in Europe. It is made of high-strength Kevlar-Aramid (DuPont) to meet the highest demands. This bulletproof helmet was designed to withstand projectiles from handguns (up to .357 Sig and .44 Magnum) and fragments up to 680 m/s. The helmet is one of the lightest on the market, weighing only up to 1.4 Kg depending on size. For comfortable wear, it features a lining with memory foam and BOA fit, and the PGD-10-Pad-Memory-Foam technology was originally developed by NASA to protect against impacts, thus protecting the wearer from blunt force trauma. Additionally, the helmet provides enough space for wearing hearing protection or communication devices - due to the low cut, ear cups attached to the helmet must have an appropriate mount. Additional equipment can be attached to the Velcro closure and the rail of the helmet.

Conclusion: The PGD MICH is among the lightest low-cut helmets available, offering high protection, maximum comfort, ease of use, and plenty of options for attaching additional equipment.

Protection / Protection Classes:

Protection / Classes

NIJ 0106.01 standard with IIIA 0101.06: .44 Magnum and .357 SIG.
NIJ 0106.01 standard with IIIA 0108.01: .44 Magnum and 9 mm FMJ.
V50 STANAG 2920: 660-680 m/s
50% reduction of backface deformation (BFD) compared to 9 mm (HPW-TP-0401.01B IIIA)

The protection class IIIA is often compared to the German SK1 but is superior in certain parameters - SK1 is only tested with 9mm and SK2 only with .357 Mag., while IIIA also includes the significantly stronger calibers .357 SIG and .44 Mag. It is therefore ballistically more comparable to the new European VPAM PM4 & PM5, which have no equivalent in the German SK.

Material science – Hard ballistic plates / hard armor

The most important criterion when selecting a ballistic plate is the so-called protection class: The USA has developed a corresponding standard that all countries and manufacturers significantly orient themselves to: NIJ Standard-0101.06 (external link)

Here is a list of the most important type classes as well as the corresponding protection / caliber strength:

Type IIA - 9x19, .40 S&W, .45ACP – all FMJ
Type II - 9mm +P FMJ, .357 Magnum SJSP
Type IIIA - .357 SIG FMJFN, .44 Magnum SJHP

Type III - 7.62x51 NATO M80 ball FMJ
Type IV - .30-06 Spring. M2 AP
