Katadyn BeFree Filter AC 1.0L Black

Katadyn BeFree Filter AC Tactical Line 1.0L (Black) – Tactical Outdoor Drinking Water Treatment
The Katadyn BeFree AC 1.0L in the black Tactical Edition combines ultralight weight with improved water quality. Unlike the standard BeFree, this "AC" model features an additional activated carbon stage that eliminates bad taste and odors. The robust, flexible 1.0-liter drinking bottle from Hydrapak® is black, making it ideal for tactical operations, bushcrafting, or discreet camping.
The system is extremely compact: when empty, the bottle can be rolled up and fits into any thigh pocket. To drink, simply fill it with water and drink directly through the mouthpiece or squeeze the water into a cooking pot. The proven EZ-Clean Membrane™ ensures microbiologically safe water with minimal resistance.
Application Area & Origin
The mobile water filter was developed for solo travelers, trail runners, and operatives who need to purify water quickly and easily. The black casing is thicker and more robust than the blue version to meet the demands of rough terrain.

Features & Performance
The BeFree AC utilizes "Free Flow Channels" technology, allowing one of the fastest flow rates on the market. Water does not need to be painstakingly sucked; a light squeeze is sufficient. The integrated carbon filter reduces organic and chemical contaminants (herbicides, pesticides in trace amounts), which is particularly advantageous for water from agricultural areas.
Comparison & Alternatives
Offers better taste compared to the standard BeFree due to carbon, but the black bottle is not transparent (filling level less visible). More robust than the blue version.
Safety & Application Notes
Protects against bacteria and protozoa. Not effective against viruses. The activated carbon should be replaced regularly (available separately), the membrane lasts up to 1,000 liters.
Maintenance & Care
Revolutionarily easy cleaning: Simply shake the bottle with water or swish the filter cartridge in water ("EZ-Clean"). No backflushing needed. Protect from frost, as hollow fibers can break in freezing conditions.
FAQ
Can I use the filter without the activated carbon?
Yes, the filter unit also works without the carbon capsule as a pure bacteria filter if you want to save weight.
How long does the black bottle last?
The tactical bottle is made from thicker TPU than the civilian versions and is very abrasion-resistant. However, sharp objects should be avoided.
Is the filter compatible with other bottles?
The filter unit has a 42mm thread. It fits all Hydrapak® 42mm bottles (e.g., Seeker), but not standard PET bottles.
Do I have to pump?
No, the BeFree is a "squeeze" filter. By applying pressure to the soft bottle, the water is pushed through the filter.
How do I store it?
Rinse, disinfect (e.g., with Micropur), and let dry. Caution: Hollow fiber filters dry very slowly.
Conclusion / Purchase Argument
The Katadyn BeFree AC 1.0L Black is the ideal companion for anyone who prefers tactical gear and values tasteless water. Small, light, robust – a must for every escape backpack.
