Katadyn Vario Filter

Katadyn Vario Filter – The smart all-rounder with dual technologyThe Katadyn Vario is the most versatile mobile outdoor water filter in its class and is perfect for small groups and outdoor tours where flexibility is required. It combines three filtration stages in a single, handy pump housing: a high-performance glass fiber, a switchable ceramic pre-filter, and replaceable activated carbon. This intelligent combination allows you to adapt the filter to the respective water quality.Do you need water quickly? In "Faster Flow" mode, the water bypasses the ceramic pre-filter and delivers up to 2 liters per minute. Is the water cloudy and dirty? Switch to "Longer Life" to activate the ceramic pre-filter, which captures suspended particles and thus protects the lifespan of the glass fiber element. Additionally, the activated carbon ensures fresh taste and reduces chemical residues.Application area & originIdeal for outdoor water treatment for trekking, camping, and traveling with a motorhome. Thanks to the integrated adapter, the Vario can be screwed directly onto Nalgene bottles or hydration systems, making filling extremely comfortable. It fills the gap between ultralight filters and heavy expedition models.Technical dataManufacturer: KatadynModel: Vario FilterFiltration technology: Pump filter, Dual (Ceramic + Glass fiber + Activated carbon)Pore size: 0.2 microns (Glass fiber & Ceramic)Filter performance (flow): up to 2 liters/min (Fast Flow)Filter lifespan: up to 2,000 liters (Glass fiber), Activated carbon approx. 400 LEffective against: Bacteria, protozoa, cysts, algae, sediments, bad taste, chemicalsMaterial: Plastics, ceramic, glass fiber, activated carbon granulateWeight: approx. 425 gDimensions: 19 x 10 cmScope of delivery:1x Katadyn Vario filter pump1x Intake hose with pre-filter and float1x Outlet hose with clip1x Cleaning pad1x Storage bag1x Silicone greaseFeatures & performanceThe pump operates very efficiently thanks to a double piston mechanism (water flow during upward and downward movement). The ceramic pre-filter can be easily wiped clean when dirty. The actual bacteriological protection is provided by the 0.2 micron glass fiber membrane, which reliably retains bacteria and protozoa. The activated carbon core is the finishing touch for the palate: it adsorbs odors and taste substances such as humic acids or chlorine.Comparison & alternativesCompared to the "Pocket," the Vario is lighter and faster but has a lower overall lifespan. Compared to the pure "Hiker Pro," it offers better protection in cloudy water due to the switchable ceramic disc.Safety & application notesFilters bacteria and protozoa but not viruses. Activated carbon should be replaced every 6 months or after approx. 400 liters to avoid bacterial growth in the granulate. Not suitable for seawater.Maintenance & careAfter use, remove hoses and pump out remaining water. Disassemble the device and let all parts (except carbon) dry. Clean the ceramic disc with the green pad if necessary.FAQWhen should I use the "Longer Life" mode?Whenever the water is visibly cloudy or contains suspended particles. The ceramic disc captures the dirt before it can clog the glass fiber.Should I use the activated carbon? The filter technically works safely even without the carbon (bacterial protection remains intact), but the taste of the water will not be improved. We recommend using the carbon for optimal drinking water. How do I know when the filter is full? The pump resistance noticeably increases. If cleaning the ceramic disc does not improve the situation, the glass fiber cartridge is saturated and needs to be replaced. Is the Vario compatible with my hydration bladder?Yes, the outlet hose fits into most hydration systems. Additionally, the filter base has a thread that fits directly onto wide-mouth bottles (like Nalgene).Does it also remove chlorine?Yes, through the activated carbon.
e-Stufe effectively reduces chlorine and other taste-disturbing chemicals. Conclusion / Purchase Argument The Katadyn Vario is the perfect compromise between performance, longevity, and comfort. Those who want not only safe but also tasty water while on tour, and encounter both clear and cloudy water, are well advised with this adaptable system.
