Repeater rifle Loewe Gewehr 88 in caliber 8x57IS WKI.

For sale is an original historical repeater rifle of the type Gewehr 88 (commission rifle) from German production, manufactured by Ludwig Loewe & Co., Berlin. The Gewehr 88 was introduced in 1888 as the standard weapon of the German Empire. The Prussian rifle testing commission (G.P.K.) developed the rifle in 1888, hence it was called Gewehr 88 and is considered one of the first modern military rifles with smokeless powder ammunition.
However, the Gewehr 88 was built in 1891, which is why the weapon is stamped Loewe Berlin 1891. Additional stamps include the stamp Gew. 88. Below the top of the barrel sleeve, you can see the stamped S, which means that the weapon was adjusted for the S cartridge introduced in 1904 with its extended bullet chamber.

On the rear sight, you can see Cyrillic or Old Russian inscriptions. Normally, the Gewehr 88 contains German/Arabic markings and not Soviet ones. However, this is possible as many weapons circulated during the First World War. Countries like the Ottoman Empire

Many of these weapons – especially those from Loewe production – were later modified and converted to the more powerful S cartridge (8×57 IS).
