The Quest S50R thermal imaging device from Nocpix is the model in the Quest series with the largest sensor – and the largest field of view.Nocpix has designed its thermal imaging devices in the Quest family as binoculars, unlike the Vista and Lumi series, as it is more comfortable and less tiring to observe wildlife with both eyes through binoculars over extended periods. The added comfort hardly affects the weight: The Quest S50R weighs only 750 g with the battery. And because knowing the exact position of the game is advantageous for a responsible shot, a laser rangefinder has been integrated into the thermal-optical instrument.
The S50R, with its 1,280×1,024-px sensor, is the model in the Quest series for hunters who value a large field of view to capture a wide area of their territory at a glance.
The Sensor
The Quest S50R thermal imaging device features a large thermal imaging sensor developed by Nocpix itself, with a resolution of 1,280×1,024 px and a pixel pitch of 12 µm. A NETD value of ≤15 mK ensures high thermal differentiation capability. The frame rate is 60 Hz, significantly improving the detection of moving objects compared to conventional 50 Hz detectors. The display is smoother and more precise, with less noise and more detailed and contrast-rich images. The magnification range is 2-16x, the detection range of the S50R with the 50 mm lens is 2,600 m, and the extremely large field of view is 30×24 m at 100 m.
The Display
The 0.72‘‘-AMOLED display with a resolution of 1,920x1,200 px features the helpful picture-in-picture function. This shows a zoomed image of the observation object in a frame in the upper display field when needed. An ultra-clear mode combined with the R+ image algorithm allows for quick detection and identification of wildlife in almost any weather and under nearly all environmental conditions. Depending on individual needs and the observation situation, warm and cool color tones and various color palettes can be selected to adjust the image. Brightness, contrast, and sharpness can be manually set in increments from 1-10.
The Device
The Quest S50R offers the comfort of a classic pair of binoculars. It impresses with its excellent haptics and fits perfectly in the hands with its rubber-coated housing. The symmetrical arrangement of the silent buttons on the top and the centrally located focus wheel, along with the zoom ring above it, make it intuitive to operate. Difficult environmental conditions are hardly an issue. The device is dust and waterproof according to IP67 and can be used in a temperature range of -20 °C to 50 °C.
The Laser Rangefinder
The integrated laser rangefinder of safety class 1 can be used for precise single measurements or for continuous scanning of the entire area. The maximum measurement range is 1,000 m with an accuracy of ±1 m. This way, you always know how far the game is and can make the right decision for the optimal shot based on this data.
The Power Supply
The Quest S50R features a dual power supply with
a built-in 4,200 mAh battery anda replaceable and rechargeable 18650 battery.
Depending on usage – number of recordings, WiFi, LRF, etc. – these achieve a runtime of up to 5 hours. The device can be powered via USB-C cable from an external power source, e.g., a 5V power bank, especially for stationary use. At the same time, the built-in battery is charged, although the replaceable 18650 battery cannot be charged in the device. A charger for this is included in the delivery. When disconnected from the external power source, the device automatically switches to battery power without interruption.
Camera and Connectivity
With the integrated camera, observations and the tracking process of wildlife can be documented as photos and videos with sound. The internal memory has a capacity of 64 GB. Using the Nocpix app – available for iOS and Android – the thermal imaging device can be connected to your smartphone via the integrated WiFi module. This way, you also receive the latest software updates. Images and videos are transmitted in real-time to the screens of mobile devices. Additionally, certain functions of the Quest S50R can be remotely controlled through this connection.
