The Ruger Mini is similar in system and bolt to the 30 US Carbine but in the more affordable caliber .223Rem.

Technology
The Mini-14 is an air-cooled gas-operated rifle (self-loading). The design is based on the M14 but uses a long-stroke gas system. Unlike the M14, the Mini-14 has a fixed gas block attached to the barrel, into which a hollow gas piston is screwed. The corresponding gas cylinder is located at the front of the bolt carrier.
The Mini-14 features a bolt catch that holds the bolt in the rear position when the magazine is empty; the trigger is located on the left front of the top of the receiver.
The safety is similar to that of the M14, located in front of the trigger guard and is pushed back (inside the trigger guard) to engage. The magazine release also corresponds to that of the M14 and must be pressed forward to release the magazine.
Convenient: The Mini-14 can also be disassembled like the M14 with just a few grips and without tools.
