A pistol based on the Browning basic design, developed in the early 1930s by FN and Polish engineers. The first production took place in 1936 in Poland, later under German supervision in Poland and subsequently under German supervision by Steyr Daimler Puch in Austria. These pistols bear the identification letters BNZ. It was the standard weapon of the Polish armed forces until 1948 and was also used as a replacement pistol by the German Wehrmacht. The pistols were originally precisely manufactured and fit well, but those produced under German supervision, especially in the Polish arsenal, exhibited poor workmanship and surface quality during the course of World War II. The last manufactured pistols did not have a slide stop device and were poorly made. Some models had lanyard loops, while others were intended for shoulder stocks. Although the pistol resembles the Colt 1911, there are numerous design differences.
