Description

The so-called Sleeve Dagger – also known as Bodkin or Nail Dagger – was developed during World War II by the British intelligence agency SOE (Special Operations Executive) specifically for covert operations in civilian settings. The compact thrusting weapon was made from a single piece of cylindrical steel, completely without a crossguard, to be carried as inconspicuously as possible. The aim was to design the dagger so discreetly that it would be overlooked or not felt even if captured.
Since there was no standardized production model, the Sleeve Dagger was manufactured in small series by various manufacturers. The first batch is said to have come from a London jeweler who had previously made letter openers.

All Sleeve Daggers had a triangular ground blade and a simple, nail-like design. The grips were round or slightly angular, some smooth, some with checkering and circumferential grooves for better grip. In front of the pommel, there was usually a recess for attaching a leather loop. The pommel itself was either flush or mushroom-shaped.

For covert carry, the Sleeve Dagger was worn in a leather sheath with two slits. A long leather strap allowed it to be worn on the forearm (hence "Sleeve") or on the leg – similar to a diving knife. The strap was wrapped in a figure-eight around the limb.

For the production of the HKT Sleeve Dagger, high-quality bearing steel GCr15 with a carbon content of 1% is used – a historically accurate choice. The dark acid-wash finish gives the dagger an antique look. The HKT Sleeve Dagger is delivered in a brown leather sheath with a long leather strap and pin buckle – very much in the style of the historical originals.
