Every wooden stock, even one that has been pre-oiled, is **hygroscopic**, meaning it absorbs water. In daily hunting and shooting operations, the stock is subjected to constant stresses such as wind, weather, moisture, and extreme temperature fluctuations. Without regular and high-quality care, moisture penetrates the wood. During subsequent drying, this can lead to warping or even cracking of the stock.

Application and Optimal Processing
The oil is applied thinly to the stock using the practical sponge attachment (for the 50 ml bottle) or a linen cloth. After a short drying time, the oil is colorfast, and the grain becomes more pronounced. The effect and level of protection improve significantly with each repetition of the treatment. Even a small amount is sufficient to achieve the desired effect.
Application tips for the best effect:

- **Regular care:** Rub Schaftol vigorously into the wood with a **linen cloth** (which should be stored in a sealed jar) after hunting and let it soak in. Repeat the treatment the next day.
- **For stains/rough spots:** Rub the stock with **fine steel wool** until smooth. Soak the areas heavily with water or vinegar, smooth again with steel wool after drying, and work Schaftol in vigorously. After complete absorption, you can polish and treat the stock again.
- **New application/raw wood:** To achieve an even better result, warm the stock oil before the first treatment to **30 to 50 degrees** and then rub it in with a linen cloth.
- **Save Schaftöl:** Use a sturdy linen cloth, as it absorbs less than cotton. Store it in a screw jar after use. This way, the cloth can be reused for each subsequent application without wasting valuable oil.
