Developed by the Danish artist and tinkerer Bent Agner Nielsen starting in 1978 – he had previously worked as an engraver and entered weapon design in the 1970s.
The M80 was introduced in Denmark in 1980 and manufactured until the mid-1980s, including export to, among others, the USA.

Safety "key": An unusual, key-like safety on the left side of the frame blocks the magazine, trigger, and slide.
Dry-Fire mode: A clever mechanism allows cocking without releasing the firing pin – ideal for safe dry training without wear.
Ergonomics: Anatomically shaped grips made of (French) walnut wood with adjustable hand rest.
Sight adjustment: Precision rear sight and block front sight are height and windage adjustable – made for target shooting.
Purpose: Sport and competition pistol ("Olympic-style"), designed for Standard or Free class – also used in DSB regulations.
Craftsmanship: Described in forums as a very high-quality, almost "enjoyable" precision device that can compete with Hämmerli models.
Quantity: Small series – produced until approx. 1991, now rare and collectible.
