Savage builds the Axis 2 Pro around a cylindrical system that is machined from raw material. From the factory, the rifle is already equipped with a one-piece scope rail with 0 MOA cant. The bolt catch is located on the right side of the system, directly behind the ejection port. Savage uses its proven, screwed headspace system for mounting the 20-inch barrel of the Axis 2 Pro. These short barrels, equipped with a muzzle thread, are currently trending in centerfire hunting rifles as they are particularly well-suited for use with suppressors.

Compared to the original Savage Axis, the Axis 2 offers some notable improvements – particularly in the trigger and stock. All new Axis 2 rifles, including the Pro version, are equipped with Savage's popular and proven AccuTrigger. This is a user-adjustable trigger with a passive safety lever in the middle of the trigger guard. In the tested rifle, the trigger broke cleanly and precisely at 2.75 pounds (approximately 1.25 kg).

The new stock of the Axis 2 Pro resembles a hybrid solution – a mix of a precision rifle stock and a classic hunting stock. It features a high comb with a negative pitch angle, meaning the comb is lower at the front and rises towards the end of the stock. This has two advantages: Firstly, the recoil is perceived as more pleasant in the cheek area, as the stock glides past the face rather than hitting it hard. Secondly, the eye is better aligned with the scope while maintaining a stable cheek contact. Additional features include an almost vertical pistol grip and a textured surface on the grip and forend for better hold.
