Webley & Scott – Gunmakers since 1790
Webley & Scott is one of the oldest names in the firearms industry and has been producing some of the world's most famous firearms for nearly two centuries – the Webley revolver, shotguns, and Webley rifles. The origins of Webley trace back to a company founded by William Davis, a manufacturer of gun mechanisms and bullet molds, on Weaman Street in Birmingham. In 1845, the company was taken over by his son-in-law Philip Webley and his brother James, who began producing percussion sporting arms. Two sons, Thomas and Henry, joined the family business in the 1860s. In the following years, Webley manufactured several types of pistols, including percussion revolvers with single and double action, as well as pinfire and centerfire revolvers. Webley became famous for manufacturing handguns. Originally, Webley's production consisted of handcrafted firearms, but later mass production was introduced to supply police and military.
