Henry undoubtedly produces some of the best-looking lever action rifles on the market in our brass and silver models. But as part of our aggressive expansion into the more utilitarian side of life with rifles and shotguns designed for everyday life in the truck, on the farm, and through the woods, these rugged all-weather rifles have become a must-have. In profile and overall dimensions, these two Henry models are essentially the same as their blue steel counterparts, featuring a 20" round barrel and a 5-shot magazine capacity in .30-30, as well as an 18.43" round barrel with a 4-shot magazine in .45-70, both equipped with the same adjustable buckhorn/bead sights. Like the blue rifles, the all-weathers also have the same stock profiles - straight in .30-30 and pistol grip in .45-70. The essential differences lie in the hard chrome finish on all metal surfaces (except springs, sights, and loading ports) and a durable industrial coating on the hardwood furniture. In a tough world where a working rifle might be "ridden hard and put away wet," this is the finish you want. A very strong coating that is permanently bonded to the underlying steel cannot chip, flake, or peel, and its corrosion resistance is actually stronger than some stainless steels. The treatment we use increases surface hardness, reduces friction on moving parts, typically leaves no scratches or scuffs, and provides a matte-gloss look that won't scare off game. The furniture is another departure for us; we have built a large part of our reputation over the years on our selected American walnut, but here we have opted for a stained hardwood with a carefully selected finish designed to withstand wear, scratches, moisture, temperature fluctuations, and the fear of the various "character marks" that an everyday outdoor tool inevitably acquires over its lifetime.
