The SFL 10x50 from Zeiss is an all-round binocular that combines a comfortable field of view with a 10x magnification.In the field, hunters like to have their hunting binoculars readily available. Now, Zeiss presents three versions with a 50-mm objective lens, maintaining the compact design of 42-mm instruments. The SFL 10x50 is the binocular in the series where field of view and magnification are balanced, making the instrument versatile for use.The optical systemThe very good optical performance of the SFL 10x50 is due to Zeiss's UHD concept. "Ultra High Definition" guarantees a true-to-nature reproduction of colors through optimal tuning of the optical design and lens coatings. A transmission value of 90% allows for observation until late twilight. The large exit pupil ensures comfortable viewing behavior. The close focus limit is only 1.8 m. The lenses naturally feature T* coating and LotuTec technology. The Schmidt-Pechan roof prisms and ED glasses (Extra Low Dispersion) minimize chromatic aberration, and the SFL 10x50 exhibits almost no imaging errors. The field of view is 122 m at 1,000 m.The ergonomicsThe "SmartFocus" concept stands for the ergonomically perfect position of the large focusing wheel. This prevents finger overstretching when adjusting. With just 1.4 turns, one can switch from close focus to infinity. Fast and precise focusing is still possible even when the cold season necessitates wearing gloves during hunting. The center of gravity of the SFL 10x50 is shifted towards the eyepiece, which balances the weight in the hand and allows for longer observation without fatigue. The completely removable eyecups are made of soft rubber and are adjustable in 5 positions.The housingThe low weight of 872 g for a 10x50 binocular, the compact size typically found only in 42-mm models, and the length of just 160 mm are made possible by a lightweight yet durable magnesium housing and thinner lens elements placed at a shorter distance. These construction principles do not affect the performance of the instrument. In addition to the robust housing, the rubber armor, made from a latex-free NBR mixture, provides additional protection. The housing is filled with nitrogen to prevent internal fogging and is waterproof up to 400 mbar. The SFL 10x50 can be used in a temperature range of -20 °C to 55 °C.
