Self-loading rifle Heckler & Koch HK SL7, cal. 308win.

The HK SL7 was the successor rifle to the reservist rifle HK 41, a civilian semi-automatic variant of the Bundeswehr rifle G3.

The main difference, besides the purely semi-automatic firing function, was a slightly longer barrel without a muzzle brake.

However, since the HK41 fell under the appearance paragraph § 37 WaffG - version before April 1, 2003 - at the latest after the Weapons Act came into force on January 1, 1973, and an exception permit from the BKA (Federal Criminal Police Office) became necessary for acquisition and possession, this weapon could no longer be purchased by reservists.

The self-loading rifle 7 was designed by Heckler & Koch as a training weapon for reservists in caliber 7.62 × 51 mm NATO.

It features the same locking system as the G3 rifle.

This is the recoil-operated system developed by Ludwig Vorgrimler with a moving-supported roller lock, a roller-delayed instead of a roller-locked locking system.

However, the locking lever is located on the right side of the housing, unlike the G3 rifle, and the safety is between the trigger and magazine.

The sighting system with drum diopter and ring front sight is technically the same, but the front sight is mounted above the muzzle to increase the sight length to 655 mm.

The magazine capacity has been limited to a maximum of 10 cartridges.

The polygonal barrel is said to have enabled five-shot groups of under 50 mm at a distance of 100 m.
