Through the targeted
weathering principle, the monitoring site is marked with the
characteristic scent of wolf urine. The intense
smell signals to the wolf the presence of a conspecific.
It perceives the surroundings as familiar, suspects an already
active "colleague" on site, and shows little distrust –
subsequently, it follows with its own territory marking.
