Description

The Carl Gustafs (Schwedenmauser) is one of the most well-known variants of the Mauser rifle, developed for the Swedish army. It is based on Mauser mechanics but was specifically designed for the caliber 6.5 x 55 SE. At the end of the 19th century, Sweden was looking for a new standard rifle and chose the Mauser design from Germany. The rifle was manufactured under license in Sweden starting in 1896, primarily at Carl Gustafs Stads Gevärsfaktori in Eskilstuna and later at Husqvarna. The 6.5 x 55 SE was one of the most modern military cartridges of its time, with low recoil and high precision. This cartridge is still used today by sport shooters and hunters. The rifle was known for its excellent manufacturing quality and had one of the most precise military sights of that time. The m/96 was the standard weapon of the Swedish army until World War II and was partially used into the 1960s. Due to its high quality, many of these rifles were later sold in the civilian market for hunters and sport shooters.
