Description

The Sauer 505 ErgoMax Black bolt-action rifle with its ergonomic polymer stock meets all functional and aesthetic demands of a contemporary hunting rifle
After ten years, the gunsmiths at J.P. Sauer & Sohn have finally launched the successor to their successful model, the Sauer 404. The Sauer 505 bolt-action rifle features a solid steel housing, which, due to optimal machining, has a weight of only 732 g, an ergonomically shaped stock, and a cold-hammered barrel, making it a hunting rifle that is second to none.

The Stock

Its name already suggests it: The elegantly black ErgoMax Black stock of this rifle version of the Sauer 505 promises you maximum ergonomics. At the same time, it is elegantly designed. The stock length is 36.5 mm. Polymer is a very durable plastic, and adverse environmental conditions are not an issue with your Sauer 505 ErgoMax Black. The material is lightweight. In combination with the ErgoMax Black stock, your Sauer 505 is a solid and robust all-round hunting rifle.

The System: Steel Housing and Bolt

A special advantage is the design of the heart of the Sauer 505 rifle. Its system is equipped with an extremely smooth one-piece bolt that is housed in a solid steel casing. The bolt is also made of steel. It is longer than that of its predecessor, the Sauer 404, and made from a single piece. This significantly reduces friction losses compared to the same components made of aluminum, providing you with a smooth chambering and a quiet cycling that becomes a tactile experience every time.

The Manual Safety

The particularly light and very safe manual safety of the Sauer 404 rifle has been further developed for the successor model. The ease of use is noticeably increased – quite literally with your thumb. With a light thumb pressure, the rifle can be cocked before the shot and just as easily released afterward to safely unload the rifle.

Trigger

A perfectly adjusted trigger with the right individual resistance is the prerequisite for a good shot. If the trigger malfunctions, the shot will be pulled down. To ensure that the trigger always feels dry, the Sauer 505 features a Quattro trigger, which allows you to choose between four weight settings. Depending on your individual needs, you can set the resistance to 350 g, 750 g, 1,000 g, and 1,250 g. The adjustment is simple and hassle-free with just a few hand movements when the fore-end is uncocked. You only need the "Sauer Universal Key" (SUS), which can be optionally placed in the fore-end; the "Sauer Mini Universal Key" (MUS) is included as standard.

The Barrel

The Sauer 505 ErgoMax Black bolt-action rifle is equipped with a cold-hammered barrel, just like the Sauer 404 rifle. This allows for highly precise shots. The muzzle diameter is standardly 17 mm, and the muzzle is equipped with an M15x1 thread for a suppressor. The standard barrels have a smooth profile, but you can also opt for a fluted barrel if desired. The fluting offers you a significant advantage: it increases the surface area of the barrel, allowing for better heat dissipation during rapid fire sequences. No shimmering air caused by heat will interfere with your aiming anymore. The fluting also reduces the weight of the barrel. The standard lengths of the barrels are 51 cm and 62 cm. Upon request, there are also 56 mm barrels available for the Mini, Medium, and Magnum caliber groups. The barrels of the Sauer 505 and its other steel surfaces are effectively protected against corrosion by a plasma nitriding process; optionally, you can receive a DLC surface (Diamond-like Carbon) for an additional charge. In this configuration with the Sauer 505 ErgoMax Black polymer stock and a 51 cm barrel, the Sauer 505 bolt-action rifle is 101.5 cm long and weighs approximately 3.5 kg.

By the way, the stocks and barrels are compatible with the Sauer 404, allowing you to use them with your old rifle and the new 505 rifle.

Magazine

Like the ErgoMax Black stock, the magazine is made of robust polymer plastic. This makes it lighter than that of the Sauer 404, which is made of metal. The magazines are designed for the selected calibers and hold 2 to 5 cartridges. The integrated magazine safety MagLock prevents unintentional activation of the magazine button.

Modular Sauer Principle

The individual modules of the Sauer 505 rifle can be configured in two ways: either by completely customizing your Sauer 505 rifle according to your personal needs or by choosing from three equipment packages assembled by gunsmiths and hunters. You proceed as follows:

You choose one of the 19 calibers with the corresponding barrel length and contour.
Then you determine which stock you want – here the polymer stock ErgoMax Black.
Finally, you decide on a pre-configured equipment package (Elegance, Highland, or Outback) or design your rifle entirely according to your own ideas.

Furthermore, all scopes that can be connected to the rifle using Blaser saddle mounts can be used with the Sauer 505.
