The Winchester SX4 Waterfowl MOSGH (Mossy Oak Shadow Grass Habitat) in the version for left-handed shooters is considered one of the fastest semi-automatic shotguns in the world.
The SX4 is the culmination of an ongoing joint development of the gas-operated shotgun by Winchester and Browning since the initial introduction of the Super-X (SX) series in 1974. With its back-bored barrels (71 cm or 76 cm), the three Invector Plus™ chokes, the TruGlo™ sight with a long front bead, the recoil-reducing "Quadra-Vent™" system for diverting combustion gases, and the Inflex™ stock cap technology for recoil minimization, the SX4 series showcases the full expertise of Winchester engineers.
The composite stock in "Waterfowl MOSGH" camouflage of the semi-automatic shotgun completes the SX4 series concept in terms of weight, ergonomics, and durability. The SX4 Waterfowl is a technologically advanced semi-automatic shotgun with eminently practical features in every respect. Additionally, thanks to the camouflage of the Winchester SX4 Waterfowl MOSGH, there is no danger of startling waterfowl due to unexpected reflections.
Active-Valve-System
The SX4 is a so-called gas-operated shotgun. Gas generated during firing is diverted through two openings in the barrel and used for the cycling process. The challenge is to divert enough energy even with weak loads to avoid malfunctions, meaning that the cartridges are ejected properly. Winchester has solved this problem with the new Active-Valve-System, which fires loads from 28g to 56g without malfunctions, while keeping the system clean with three rubber seals. Only as much gas is released as is necessary for the operation of the system, and the excess is vented through the four Quadra-Vent ports near the fore-end.
Trigger and Safety
The safety is located on the trigger guard in front of the trigger and is disengaged by pressing from right to left with the trigger finger, or secured in the opposite direction. A conversion for left-handed shooters is easily possible here. A red outline, which is only visible when the safety is disengaged, provides an additional visual signal. The ergonomic positioning of the safety button allows the shooter to develop an automatic response in no time, as the positioning is in a natural position, enabling the weapon to be disengaged reflexively after a short time. The trigger blade is pleasantly large, ensuring that even with winter clothing, the necessary tactile feedback is achieved. The trigger group can be quickly removed as a unit for cleaning by pushing out two pins. It can be reassembled in no time thanks to a self-aligning bolt holder connection.
Barrel
The barrel of the Winchester SX4 Waterfowl MOSGH is manufactured with a length of 71 cm or 76 cm. The barrel is equipped with a 6 mm wide ventilated rib that carries a front bead. The top of the rib is finely guilloched. The barrel and chamber are hard chrome-plated on the inside, providing optimal rust protection. A special highlight is the back-bored barrel technology. The shotgun barrel slightly tapers from back to front, resulting in a smoother transition at the choke. This measurably increases shot speed, significantly reduces recoil, and greatly improves coverage.
Stock and Magazine
The fore-end of the Winchester SX4 Waterfowl MOSGH fits comfortably in the hand due to its ergonomic design. With the slim stock, the shooter's hand is very close to the sight line, promising exceptional maneuverability. At the end of the tube magazine, there is a cap that can be easily unscrewed. Under this cap is the Turnkey, a pin that prevents the magazine from being loaded with more than two cartridges at once. The buttstock contributes to the perfect balance of the semi-automatic shotgun, allowing it to swing smoothly. Additionally, the stock length can be adjusted with spacers to fit the shooter. The buttstock is finished with a recoil-reducing stock cap, which reduces recoil due to its Inflex technology.
Inflex
The buttstock of the Winchester SX4 Waterfowl MOSGH is equipped with the Inflex system, which dampens perceived recoil. The construction of the shotgun, combined with the Inflex spacers, which can be attached individually or as a group, directs the energy of the recoil downward. This also minimizes the muzzle rise of the semi-automatic shotgun. The Inflex spacers are made of recoil-absorbing synthetic material and are available in different thicknesses.
