Barnes TSX and TTSX (with polymer tip) bullets are pressed from pure copper on state-of-the-art machines, rather than being turned like other brands. Due to the pressed manufacturing process, the response behavior of these bullets in game tissue is most comparable to that of a high-quality lead-core bullet - but without its disadvantages (e.g., no lead fragments in the game tissue).

Four relief grooves on the bullet body increase self-precision, reduce the friction surface, and thus the deposits in the barrel. A hollow point in the TSX or a concealed hollow point in the TTSX bullets with polymer tip ensures an immediate, uniform, four-petal expansion of the bullet upon impact with the game tissue to about 1.8 times the caliber diameter, controlled energy release, and very good momentary effect.

The bullet does not fragment and has very low hematoma formation, resulting in minimal game meat degradation and thus less work when butchering the game. There is almost always an exit wound with nearly 100% bullet weight retention. This makes it possible to use lighter bullets compared to known lead-core bullet ammunition.
