In 1951, the self-loading pistol model Makarov, named after its designer, was introduced into the military in the former Soviet Union. Later, various countries of the then Warsaw Pact adopted this model as a standard weapon for police and military. Like the original, this CO2 model features a double/single action system as well as all functionally relevant controls and a movable slide. The robust construction is particularly evident in that all important components such as the grip, slide, and external controls are made entirely of metal.
