The tradition of sabering a champagne bottle originated in France during the time of Napoleon - known as sabrage in German.
Sabering a champagne bottle is simple and usually works on the first try with proper technique. After removing the wire cage from the cork, you gently strike the blade of the saber along the neck of the bottle at the thickening just below the bottle's lip. The cork should pop off with a bang, and the champagne or sparkling wine will flow out. Any glass shards that may occur will fly forward due to the pressure. Please ensure to keep a safe distance.
