The champagne saber is a specially shaped saber with a wide, flat blade and a short handle. It is traditionally used to open a champagne bottle by breaking off the cork (sabrage).

Sabrage is the fencing or celebration custom of opening a champagne bottle cleanly at the neck with the saber by slicing through the cork and bottle or pushing out the cork along with the cork cone. Common at special occasions or celebrations.
