The OC 5000 pepper sprays are based on cayenne pepper, the oleoresin capsaicin. It has an immediate, highly irritating effect on the nose, eyes, and mucous membranes, but is completely natural and non-toxic. In Germany, pepper spray is mainly used by the police against people, as it is more effective than CS spray and also works very reliably on intoxicated and drugged individuals.

Private individuals are only allowed to use pepper spray in Germany to defend against aggressive, attacking animals.
