The Maru blade is made of carbon steel with more than 0.6% carbon content. The blade has been treated with traditional clay tempering. This treatment results in a genuine hamon (hardness line), designed in the Chu Suguha (straight hamon) style. Additionally, the blade has been polished using the Sashikomi technique, which is typically used for historical swords. This particularly emphasizes the hardness line and results in an exclusive appearance, as this type of polishing is also used for significantly more expensive swords. The blade is sharp. The grip also differs at first glance from other modern produced swords. Hishigami (triangles made of paper) are incorporated into the grip wrapping. These provide additional structure to the wrapping and are a must for high-quality swords. The solid wood grip is so well adapted to the tang of the blade that a mekugi (bamboo pin) is sufficient to hold the blade in the grip. This also corresponds to the design of significantly more expensive swords. The sharp sword sheath with Ishime (droplet-like) lacquer perfectly rounds off the high-quality appearance of the sword.
