With the Haenel "Competition Rifle" 223, or CR 223 for short, the gunsmith Haenel continues its long tradition in the manufacturing of semi-automatic rifles.

Once, the first assault rifle in history was built and developed at C.G. Haenel in Suhl. The CR 223 is a semi-automatic rifle with a piston system in caliber .223 Rem., based on the legendary AR 15 system. As a modern self-loader in centerfire configuration, the Haenel CR 223 also operates as a gas-operated loader with a rotating bolt. The telescopic buttstock is adjustable in length in six stages. The rifle features a free-floating, cold-hammered barrel.
M-LOK Handguard

The aluminum handguard features two Picatinny rails (STANAG 4694, top/bottom). The fore-end is rounded on the sides (left/right) and thus flat with M-LOK interfaces. The fore-end is removable without tools.

C.G. Haenel has a long tradition as a manufacturer of semi-automatic and fully automatic sport and service weapons: With the StG44, the first assault rifle in the world was co-developed and manufactured at Haenel in Suhl in the 20th century.
