Honsanmai blade means that actually different types of steel with varying hardness were used in the forging process and not the same type, as is often strangely seen on the internet. Honsanmai is a demanding construction as it involves 3 different hardnesses. However, it is often used because it is relatively simple to construct. In this sword, the core and spine have a hardness of 40-42 HRC. The edge of the blade has a hardness of 58-60 HRC. The sides have a hardness of 50-52 HRC. The blade was treated with clay hardening. The hamon is naturally real. Otherwise, only the highest quality materials were used for this sword, such as solid wood for the saya. All fittings are made of metal. The handle wrapping is Katate Maki, commonly known as war wrapping. Demons are depicted on the tsuba.
