This is a case format based on the .45-70 that is 2.6 inches long and suitable for smokeless or black powder loads. When loading with black powder, it may be necessary to heat the mouth of the case to allow for proper sealing of the chamber, as these loads produce lower pressures. Our cases are very robustly constructed to withstand the high pressures associated with smokeless hunting loads. Since the only way to make the brass harder is to work the material, it was decided to keep the cases stiffer so that customers can heat them for their specific application.
