The .450 Bushmaster was developed as a caliber for the AR-15 platform and is suitable for hunting at short distances with a large caliber. As with most AR caliber conversions, only the upper receiver needs to be replaced. With the introduction of some new bolt-action rifles in this caliber and many states changing wildlife laws to allow the use of rimmed cartridges for deer hunting, the .450 Bushmaster is enjoying growing popularity. Ruger now offers their American Ranch and Gunsite Scout bolt-action rifles in .450 Bushmaster caliber as well. This caliber uses the common .452" bullet diameter, with reloaders able to use bullet weights from 160 to 350+ grains.
