Measuring cartridge lengths over the bullet tips is not a reliable (or repeatable) method for measuring loaded cartridges. It is common for deviations of up to 0.025" to occur between individual cartridges. The bullet comparator measures the cartridges from the ogive to ensure consistent and precise measurements. You can also use it to check the uniformity of the bullets from the base to the ogive.

The bullet comparator easily attaches to the caliper blade and uses interchangeable inserts (available in sizes from .17 caliber to .45 caliber) to measure from the bullet ogive.

In combination with the O.A.L. gauge, the bullet comparator provides the ultimate precision measurement. The bullet comparator correctly aligns the O.A.L. gauge to take precise measurements with a caliper. This method allows for direct comparison of your loads while setting up your bullet seating tool for each selected bullet jump.

With the Bullet Comparator, you can measure cartridge lengths from the base to the nominal diameter at the ogive using a caliper. This is more meaningful and also more repeatable than measuring to the bullet tip.
