The VIP Steel Pro Eco wad cartridges from Eley Hawk are the first of their kind loaded by a British manufacturer. Clay pigeon shooters can now safely fire steel shot cartridges with an environmentally friendly plug that contains no plastic. The cartridge is hot-sealed at the crimp to prevent moisture ingress and has been rigorously tested for safety and ballistics.

The key figure in the testing and development phase was Paul Oldring, master shooter and chief instructor at the Frobury Shooting Ground. “At Frobury, the land we shoot over is mainly water meadows, which means we have been limited to a 28-gram steel cartridge that has a considerable recoil for a 15 to 17-year-old making their first shots. The new VIP 24-gram Pro Eco Steel load sits noticeably lighter on the shoulder and handles like a 21-gram Eley Select, yet delivers excellent results even on our 125-foot high tower. I was very impressed with their performance and would have no hesitation in using them for all my clay pigeon shooting – including competitions.”
