Gas checks are small tombak cups that are pressed onto the base of cast lead bullets. At the same time, calibration and bullet lubrication are performed. Gas checks are used when a V0 over 450 m/s is achieved. The gas pressures required for this speed generate such a high temperature that the lead would melt. The gas checks are pressed firmly into the bullet during calibration and anchored. This prevents the lead from melting.
