Gas-Checks are small tombak cups that are pressed onto the base of cast lead bullets. At the same time, calibration and bullet lubrication are performed. Gas-Checks are used when a V0 over 450 m/s is achieved. The gas pressures required for this speed generate such a high temperature that the lead would melt. The Gas-Checks are firmly pressed and anchored into the bullet during calibration. This prevents the lead from melting.
