Description

Lauf: mirror-smooth - "Factory New"  Barrels/Fields: sharp Note: Not number-matching Barrel length: approx. 50.5 cm Overall length: approx. 99.5 cm One of only about 4,000 carbines ever produced, the Gwyn & Campbell carbine with percussion mechanism in caliber .52, was the invention of businessmen Edward Gwyn and his partner Abner C. Campbell from Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. Sometimes referred to as the “Union Carbine” or “Grapevine Carbine,” the Type 2 from Gwyn & Campbell is the successor weapon to the carbine from the Cosmopolitan Arms Company from Hamilton, Ohio, which is also called Type I. Contracts with Gwyn & Campbell in the years 1863 and 1864 totaled 8,202 carbines of Type I and Type II variants. A number of Union cavalry units were armed with this weapon, including the 3rd Wisconsin; 2nd and 3rd Iowa; 2nd and 3rd Arkansas; 5th and 8th Ohio; 5th, 6th, and 16th Illinois along with other Civil War units. The weapon is a single-shot falling-block action piece, connected to a round 20-inch barrel that has an octagonal section at the breech. This specimen shows all iron fittings with fine case colors, while the barrel retains practically all of its original bluing. The hammer has a flat back with a beveled edge and a lever that is not as snake-like as the Type 1 model. The lever locks into a small claw-like, vertically mounted latch at the bottom of the stock. The carbine has a sharp manufacturer mark of “GWYN & CAMPBELL / PATENT / 1862 / HAMILTON, O.” on the lock plate, and the weapon is also heavily stamped on the frame “UNION RIFLE.” A long base sight sits on the barrel. This carbine features strong and crisp mechanics and is equipped with a lifting lever and a lifter ring. The oiled walnut stock is overall very fine and has a single U.S. government inspector cartouche on the left side of the stock. For more pictures, please visit: https://waffenmunition.de/produkt/buergerkrieg-gwy…abiner-typ-ii-52/ ‎ If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us.
