The Sauer 505 Artemis / ErgoCompact bolt-action rifle with its compact wooden stock is particularly tailored to the needs of female hunters
The namesake of this version of the Sauer 505 bolt-action rifle is Artemis, the Greek goddess of hunting. There is a reason for this, as the Sauer 505 Artemis / ErgoCompact rifle is specifically configured for female hunters. Homer referred to her as the "forest traverser" and "mistress of the accurate arrows." If Homer were to compose his epics today, it would likely have become "the forest traversing mistress of the accurate hunting rifle" in reference to the new model from J.P. Sauer & Sohn. The new Sauer 505 rifle from the Allgäu gunsmiths is characterized by its solid steel housing, which contributes only 732 g to the total weight of the rifle despite the robust material. From the compact stock to the precise steel housing and the cold-hammered barrel, female hunters will be thrilled with this rifle.
The Stock
The special features of the wooden stock Artemis / ErgoCompact are its compact dimensions, the steeply rising drop at the rear, a slender pistol grip, and the reduced distance from the shooting hand to the trigger. This special ergonomic design meets the needs of the female physique, regardless of the shooting position the hunter uses to aim with her Sauer 505 rifle. The body remains relaxed while aiming and shooting and does not have to tense up because the rifle is oversized. This significantly increases accuracy. The stock is made of walnut and is offered in wood classes 2-10.
The System: Steel Housing and Bolt
The components of the Sauer 505 rifle system are made of solid steel, both the housing and the one-piece bolt. Steel has a significant advantage over aluminum in that it creates much less friction. Therefore, with the Sauer 505 system, you have a super smooth chambering and quiet cycling.
The Manual Safety
The manual safety is highly comfortable and secure at the same time. The Sauer 505 model has undergone further development compared to its predecessors, both in terms of usability and safety. An extension of the cocking travel requires even less effort, which is also beneficial for female hunters. With a light thumb pressure, you can cock your rifle just before the shot, and just as easily relax it afterward to unload.
Trigger
The Sauer 505 features a Quattro trigger with four weight settings, ensuring that the trigger breaks crystal clear and you have the individually suitable trigger weight. Settings of 350 g, 750 g, 1,000 g, and 1,250 g are possible. The adjustment is made with the "Sauer Universal Key" (SUS) when the fore-end is uncocked, which can be optionally placed in the fore-end; the "Sauer Mini Universal Key" (MUS) is included as standard. A precisely adjusted trigger prevents jerking during the shot and missing the target.
The Barrel
The cold-hammered barrel of the Sauer 505 allows for extremely precise results. The muzzle diameter is standardly 17 mm, and the muzzle is equipped with an M15x1 thread for a suppressor. The Sauer 505 bolt-action rifle is delivered with a smooth profile barrel; upon request, you can also receive it with a fluted barrel. The increased surface area of the barrel due to fluting dissipates heat faster, so that even with high shot sequences, no disturbing mirage occurs. Another advantage of fluting is weight reduction. The standard lengths of the barrels are 51 cm and 62 cm; in addition, there are 56 mm barrels for calibers in the Mini, Medium, and Magnum categories. The corrosion protection of the barrels and all other steel surfaces of the Sauer 505 is a plasma nitriding. For an additional charge, you can receive a DLC surface (Diamond-like Carbon).
Magazine
The magazine of the Sauer 505 rifle is made of polymer, which slightly reduces the weight. The magazines are designed for the chosen calibers and hold between 2 to 5 cartridges, depending on the version. An unintentional release of the magazine button is prevented by the integrated magazine safety MagLock.
Modular Sauer Principle
The Sauer 505 rifle relies on the proven modular Sauer principle. You have two options for configuring the modules: Either you assemble your Sauer 505 completely freely according to your individual needs, or you choose from three equipment packages that the gunsmiths at Sauer have put together with experienced hunters for you.
You choose one of the 19 calibers in the corresponding barrel length and contour.
Then you determine which stock you want – here described is the variant for female hunters with the wooden stock Artemis / ErgoCompact.
Finally, you choose one of the three pre-configured equipment packages (Elegance, Highland, and Outback), or you design all components of your rifle completely according to your own ideas.
The Sauer 505 is compatible with all scopes that can be installed on the rifle using a Blaser saddle mount.
