The Sauer 505 Synchro XT Black bolt-action rifle combines proven Sauer precision with an ergonomic polymer stock.
There was great anticipation for what the gunsmiths from J.P. Sauer & Sohn would present as the successor to their successful model Sauer 404 after ten years. The Sauer 505 bolt-action rifle features a solid steel receiver, which, thanks to perfect skeletonization during machining, weighs only 732 g. Combined with the ergonomic stock and cold-hammered barrel, you get a hunting rifle with the proven Sauer precision since 1751.
The Stock
The stock of this version of the Sauer 505 is the polymer stock Synchro XT Black. Its ergonomic design, which brings elegance and dynamism into a symbiosis, immediately catches the eye. You can adjust the cheek piece to your personal physical needs when aiming and shooting using the height-adjustable stock comb. The stock length is 36.5 cm. Polymer is a lightweight and extremely durable material, allowing you to use your Sauer 505 Synchro XT Black regularly in adverse weather conditions without damaging the material. With the Synchro XT Black stock, your Sauer 505 is literally an all-weather rifle.
The System: Steel Receiver and Bolt
The heart of the Sauer 505 is its system with an extremely smooth one-piece bolt housed in a solid steel receiver. The bolt is also made of steel, longer than in the predecessor model, and made from a single piece. This allows for reduced friction losses and a smooth chambering process, resulting in quiet cycling.
The Manual Safety
The manual safety, which already distinguished the Sauer 404, has been further developed. It is now even easier to operate and makes your Sauer 505 even safer. With a light thumb pressure, the lock can be engaged just before the shot, and it is just as easy to disengage for unloading in a relaxed state.
Trigger
“The trigger, however, is the real showstopper,” writes Wolfram Osgyan in his test report (Wild und Hund, Issue 3/2024, p. 51), “free of creep, without dragging or sticking.” The Quattro trigger with four weight settings ensures that the trigger is crisp. You can individually adjust the resistance to 350, 750, 1,000, or 1,250 g as needed. The adjustment is easily made with the fore-end removed using the “Sauer Universal Key” (SUS), which can be optionally placed in the fore-end; included as standard is the “Sauer Mini Universal Key” (MUS).
The Barrel
The barrel of the Sauer 505 is cold-hammered. The muzzle diameter is 17 mm, and the muzzle is equipped with an M15x1 thread for a sound suppressor. The standard barrels have a smooth profile, but you can also order a fluted barrel if desired. Fluting increases the barrel surface area, allowing heat to dissipate better during rapid fire sequences and preventing mirage from interfering with aiming. It also reduces the weight of the barrel. The standard lengths of the barrels are 51 cm and 62 cm. Upon request, 56 cm barrels are also available for the Mini, Medium, and Magnum caliber groups. The barrels of the Sauer 505 and their other steel surfaces are effectively protected against corrosion by plasma nitriding; optionally, you can receive a DLC surface (Diamond Like Carbon) for an additional charge. In this configuration with the Sauer 505 Synchro XT Black polymer stock and a 51 cm barrel, the Sauer 505 bolt-action rifle is 101.5 cm long and weighs approximately 3.5 kg.

Magazine
The magazine is made of polymer, just like the Synchro XT Black stock, making it lighter than its metal predecessor. The magazines hold 2 or 3 cartridges. The integrated magazine safety MagLock prevents accidental release of the magazine button.
Modular Sauer Principle
You can configure the modules of the Sauer 505 in two ways, either by freely assembling your new Sauer 505 or by choosing from three equipment packages. The process is as follows:

You choose one of the 19 calibers with the corresponding barrel length and contour.
Then you determine which stock you want – here the polymer stock Synchro XT Black.
Finally, you choose a pre-configured equipment package (Elegance, Highland, or Outback) or design your rifle completely according to your own ideas, such as with custom chamber grip balls.

Furthermore, all scopes that can be connected to the rifle using Blaser saddle mounts can be used with the Sauer 505.
