Pulsar Axion 2 XG35 – compact thermal imaging monocular with high range
The Pulsar Axion 2 XG35 is a handy thermal imaging monocular for hunters looking for a lot of overview and range in a compact format. It is suitable for use in the forest as well as for open areas and longer observations.
Sensor and Detection Performance
The Axion 2 XG35 features a 640 × 480 VOx sensor with a 12 µm pixel pitch. The sensor itself has a NETD of < 40 mK, and the system achieves a system NETD value of under 20 mK thanks to signal processing. In practice, this ensures a stable image presentation and reliable detection even in humid air, fog, or low temperature contrast. The detection distance extends up to 1,750 m.
Optics and Magnification
The 35 mm F1.0 germanium lens is designed to be light-sensitive and efficiently collects heat signatures. The optical base magnification of 2.5× offers a good balance of overview and detail. The continuous digital zoom up to 20× allows the image to be adjusted according to the situation.
Image Presentation and Adjustment
The display is via an AMOLED display with 1024 × 768 pixels. The image appears high in contrast and stable. Three levels of sensitivity enhancement help to adapt the image to weather, terrain, and target distance. Additionally, eight color palettes and a user mode for fine-tuning are available.
Handling and Housing
Weighing approximately 380 g including the battery, the Axion 2 XG35 remains pleasantly lightweight and well-balanced. The symmetrical housing with a central button arrangement can be securely operated by both right- and left-handed users. The magnesium housing protects the technology from impacts and reliably dissipates generated heat. Thanks to IPX7, the device is completely waterproof.
Battery, Storage, and Connectivity
Power is supplied by a replaceable APS5 battery with a runtime of up to 7 hours. The battery can be quickly swapped or charged via USB-C. An integrated photo and video recorder with 16 GB of internal storage is also available, as well as Wi-Fi in the 2.4 and 5 GHz bands. Through the Stream Vision 2 app, recordings can be transferred, settings changed, and firmware updates performed.
