Repeater Rifle Arisaka Type 38, 6.5x50Arisaka, Empire of Japan, WWII, Thailand, Carbine Conversion. The Arisaka Type 38 was the standard armament of the Imperial Japanese Army from 1938 to 1945. The predecessor of this weapon was the Type 30 rifle. Unfortunately, this rifle was at best an unreliable weapon, which was clearly evident to the detriment of Japanese soldiers during the Russo-Japanese War. Problems included case ruptures, ignition of gunpowder outside the chamber, misfires, feeding jams, and ejection issues. Therefore, the rifle was technically revised, which included reducing the number of parts and simplifying manufacturing and disassembly. The result of these efforts was the Type 38.
By 1940, more than 3 million units had been delivered. During the Second Sino-Japanese War, doubts arose about the effectiveness of the 6.5×50mmArisaka ammunition. Although the caliber was on par with the Norwegian and Italian 6.5 calibers, the calibers of most armies had greater penetration power. Aside from that, the Type 38 rifle, at 128 cm, was the longest rifle among the participating nations in the war. Post-war investigations by the U.S. military and the N.R.A. found that the bolt of the rifle was the strongest used in the war and could have easily handled stronger loads.
The rifle in question is a piece that passed into the possession of Thailand after World War II and was visually adapted to the M1 Carbine. Rifles modified in this way were used, among others, by the Thai police. The rifle is in good condition. The weapon is not matching numbers but has a valid proof mark. The dust cover is present.
