A rescue tool must first and foremost meet a central requirement: in an emergency and stressful situation, it must be quick, easy, and reliable to operate. The technically best solution to meet this demand is a construction with an automatic push blade (English OTF, short for Out-of-The-Front) with robustly constructed and carefully processed mechanics. This poses a legal challenge for the manufacturer in Germany, as OTF knives are initially prohibited under German weapons law (WaffG §1 Absatz 4 in connection with Anlage 1 Abschnitt 1 Unterabschnitt 2.1.1).

However, for the rescue tool Böker Plus Rescue OTF, there is now a determination notice from the Federal Criminal Police Office, which denies the weapon and prohibition characteristics of this tool due to the blade shape. (File number SO13-5164.01-Z-543) The possession and even the carrying of this tool in public (in Germany) is permitted.

The heart of the rescue tool is a classic spring mechanism with a thumb slider that allows the blade to spring out powerfully when activated or to slide completely back into the handle. The absolutely reliable and proven mechanism with a strong spring has been adopted from the OTFs of the Kalashnikov spring knife series, which Böker has been distributing abroad for many years, e.g., in France or the USA.

The blade designed as a rescue hook with a rounded tip prevents accidental injuries during a rescue of others or oneself. The cutting edge with an inner radius behind the tip allows for quick and intuitive cutting of straps, cords, and kernmantle ropes, as well as safely cutting clothing from injured persons. The aggressive serration in the second half of the blade also enables the cutting of thick and crusted ropes. Due to its extreme cutting retention in the pull-cut area, the rust-resistant steel D2 has been used for the blade. The handle body is equipped with pronounced finger grooves for the required grip security and is additionally textured to be slip-resistant.

The material used for the handle, aluminum, provides the necessary strength while maintaining a low weight. The indispensable glass breaker for shattering side windows has been equipped with an effective steep cone. The core of the glass breaker is made of extremely hard tungsten carbide. For easy replacement in case of wear, the glass breaker has been connected to the handle with a screw thread. A deep-carry spring steel clip and nylon pouch. Overall length 22 cm. Blade length 9 cm.
