With the BUBIX Bro, the Austrian company Bubix GmbH presents its latest development in the field of subcompact pistols.

 

As an experienced pistol designer, Wilhelm Bubits has already made an international name for himself through the development of the Steyr M9 pistol and the Caracal, as well as being the developer of the BB6.

 

The BUBIX Bro pistol, available in Germany since January 2022, is now the latest development from the Bubits family. The weapon is available in addition to the color black in 4 other color variations.

In addition to a dark brown, green, and sand-colored grip, a pink grip is also available for the ambitious shooter.

 

The 161.5x24.4x121mm subcompact pistol has a barrel length of 90mm. Thus, the BUBIX Bro is positioned between the Glock 43 and the Glock 19.

 

Features include the closed slide rear with laterally mounted ejection port, the wide trigger with a very short reset and without an integrated safety lever, and the innovative grip safety, which only disengages the weapon when the grip is fully engaged. Other highlights are the ambidextrous magazine release button and slide stop lever, as well as the one-button disassembly.

 

The rather slim grip of the BUBIX Bro suggests the use of a single-stack magazine, but in fact, a double-stack magazine with a capacity of 12+1 rounds is used.

This gives the weapon a significant advantage in firepower compared to competing models with single-stack magazines while maintaining a balanced handling.

 

Additionally, the BUBIX Bro has been designed with a slight front-heavy balance, which is typically found only in the realm of sport pistols. Due to the slide construction and an innovative locking block, the barrel of the BUBIX Bro only tilts a few millimeters during firing, keeping the weapon very stable in the line of aim without significant upward movement. In a loaded state, a signal pin protrudes visibly and tangibly from the top of the slide, reliably indicating the presence of a round in the chamber.

 

The original BUBIX Bro plastic holster, which you receive with every weapon, almost completely encloses the entire pistol. A lock can be attached in the trigger area. Additionally, the holster features a retention cord that can be attached to a belt or waistband and remains on the body when quickly drawing the pistol.

 

Another gimmick that should not go unmentioned is the tool-free base plate exchange of the magazines. The weapon is also available in 3 different calibers - 9x18 Makarov, 9x19, and 9x21 IMI. The barrels can be exchanged in the same weapon with the same slide, which is another highlight of this Austrian manufactured pistol.

Bubix Bro? "B" - sounds like a typo to you? No, far from it: It deliberately does not mean Pro, and we will explain why further down in the article. And who is behind the brand name Bubix? The Bubix GmbH, a new manufacturer of pistols from Austria. The responsible persons are Walter Hammel as the legally responsible person and Benjamin Bubits as the person in charge of development, assembly, quality control, and testing.

Wait - Bubits, that name sounds familiar? Correct: The father is the well-known designer Wilhelm Bubits, not just among insiders. Together with him, the son Benjamin, born in 1988, pursued projects regarding the development and construction of various weapons for years. In 2019, Benjamin Bubits teamed up with Walter Hamel to build pistols and founded Bubix GmbH. In October 2021, the company presented its first self-developed pistol model. For the presentation of the brand-new Bubix Bro, Benjamin Bubits even traveled with some pre-series pieces to Nassau to give us an exclusive first look at the new pistol. Here are the details:

The market for polymer pistols with striker firing mechanisms is highly competitive. The question is how to find a niche in this field. One option for uniqueness is the choice of three calibers. Of course, anyone who wants to succeed in this field cannot avoid 9 mm Luger aka 9 mm Parabellum or 9 x 19 mm. But then: With 9 x 21 mm, Bubix targets countries like Italy - even though 9x19 has recently been approved here as well. But the market has grown historically...

Yes, then there is the caliber 9 mm Makarov (metric: 9 x 18 mm) - it was once the main competitor of the 9 mm Luger in Europe, as it was widely used in the Eastern Bloc along with the Makarov pistol. Today, the caliber ranks low in the West, even though Sellier & Bellot, GECO, and Fiocchi in Europe and Hornady in the USA still manufacture cartridges of this caliber. However, the Makarov cartridge still has a large fan base in Eastern Europe, particularly in Russia.

Beyond that, there are practical aspects: The 9 x 18 delivers more power than the .380 ACP aka 9 mm short (= 9 x 17 mm), which is often taken as an alternative to the 9 mm Luger. Let’s note: The new Bubix Bro comes not only in three caliber variants, but there are also corresponding conversion kits.

Benjamin Bubits describes the second aspect as follows: "In our survey, it became clear that there are plenty of large pistols in full configuration.
